Well it’s that time of year when all the toy and comic fans cram their sweaty bodies into one huge convention center in San Diego, California for the event called Comic Con. I’ve been going off and on since the 1980’s and to say it’s changed a lot is an understatement .. gone are the days when comic books took up most of the convention hall .. now it’s all about the latest Hollywood movie and or hot new video game .. sigh .. I’m already sounding like an old man. .. oh right, I am an old man ;-P Still each year as I wonder the floor there are glimpses of inspiration, whether it be a new up and coming artist that catches my eye or the chance to drool over original Jack Kirby comic art .. now priced way outta my affordability .. but no matter, at least to look is free… at least for the time being (!!)
If it not for my son, Max, I most likely would not go every year, to be honest .. but my collector genes flow in my boy , so like a piece of metal to a magnet he is drawn to the con .. and along I go 😉 Anyways, most of the time I will be wondering around wherever Max wants to go, probably the Lego booth.
Somehow I’ve got a few work related things to do … so here we go … my Max Toy Company / Mark Nagata San Diego Comic Con schedule : Thursday July 22, 2010 – I will be at the StrangeCo booth from 11am – 2pm , and on Friday July 23, 2010 – I will be at the Rotofugi booth from 10am – Noon.
Both days I will have a nice selection of 30+ , hand painted with Monster Kolor paint Kaiju goodness ( see below ) and some surprises along the way. My partner in crime, Matt Walker / Dead Presidents Designs will also be appearing with me. Matt will do some pin stripe demos on toys .. if you have not seen him up close, you should .. amazing work !! I’ll also be attempting to do some Ustreaming while I am there as well via my iPhone .. you can watch real time .. Search under ” maxtoyco “. and also follow my Tweets via Twitter – http://twitter.com/maxtoyco .
I’m not a very social person ( ha-ha ) but I do look forward to seeing friends and Max Toy fans from all over the world and talking about, what else, Japanese toys at this convention… ! … and I know Max will spend more on toys than me ;-P
note: the following items are all one of a kind hand painted figures and will be available at SDCC at either the StrangeCo or Rotofugi booths .. sorry first come, first served. Thank you for understanding 😉
